Dressing up for the office in the summer can feel like an impossible task, especially when you are juggling scorching commutes, freezing workspaces and a packed calendar.
The good news is this season’s work wear trends are making it easier than ever to stay stylish and comfortable.
From breathable and flowy fabrics to pastels and accessories, Summer 2025 is all about striking a balance between comfort and class.
Linen everything
Creating looks for the workplace in the summer does not mean having to sacrifice style, according to Bahrain-based fashion blogger Jessica Bryant.
“Breathable fabrics such as linen and cotton will be your best friend this season,” she said, adding that the trick is to avoid choosing the same fabrics for both, shirt and trousers.
“Try pairing a linen shirt with tailored trousers or a satin skirt to elevate the look. Cotton dresses (in midi or maxi length) are another comfortable option smart enough for the office, while keeping you cool.”
Quality matters
Bahraini fashion blogger Dalia Al Sadiqi suggests those who struggle to pair garments together to invest in good-quality pieces that will last throughout the season.
“Avoid cheap floral prints, especially on polyester tops, as they can appear dated and detract from a refined look,” she said, adding that pre-cuffed flimsy blazers can often compromise the overall silhouette.
“Instead, opt for tailored pants, a crisp shirt, and a structured blazer, in breathable fabrics, which are ideal for a polished look and will keep you cool.”
Colour combinations
This summer’s pallet is all about warmth and softness.
“Fresh pastels and crisp whites are at the forefront of fashion,” Dalia said, adding that grey is a timeless neutral that pairs perfectly with a butter yellow – one of this summer’s standout shades.
“Brown also continues to be a must-have shade, and pairing it with soft pink brings a cooler feel, for creating that laid-back, summer-chic vibe.”
Accessorise!
Sometimes, it is the smallest of touches that make the biggest impact. For those who prefer neutral tones, Jess believes that with the right accessories, any outfit can be elevated.
“Match your belt, bag and shoes for a cohesive look,” she said, recommending a tan belt with tan shoes and a matching bag as an option.
“Statement earrings are also a game changer. When your outfit feels too simple, a chunky gold earring instantly adds interest and edge without overwhelming the look, and don’t forget to match your metals!”
For example, if your belt has a gold buckle, opt for gold jewellery to achieve a clean look.
Dalia, who enjoys finishing her outfit off with a classy shoe or bag, also suggested pairing the outfit with a fun bag.
“Textured lightweight, raffia palm and crochet bags are the accessories of the season, and these artisanal-style pieces add a boho-chic flair to any look.”
Net-a-Porter.com has some great summer bags, including the functional Ferragamo raffia tote, and sunglasses — a staple accessory to beat the heat.
Let it flow
When the heat is on, rigid silhouettes just won’t cut it. Try flowy trousers — the ultimate blend of comfort and sophistication.
“Flowy trousers are effortless and comfortable, and perfect for staying cool while maintaining a polished look,” Dalia said, adding that a flowy-top-and-skirt combo is the ultimate elegant look.
“A lightweight top worn with a flowy skirt creates a chic yet comfortable silhouette that is perfect for everyday office days.”
Jess also suggested investing in black or white wide-leg trousers that can be matched with a top of any colour.
