Land Rover has unveiled the all-new 2012 Range Rover at a glitzy gala event held by Euro Motors, the marque’s distributor, at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa.
The launch of the fourth generation model was attended by members of the Royal Family, local and international dignitaries, VIPs and loyal Land Rover customers.
Lighter, stronger and with new levels of refinement, the new Range Rover reinforces the brand’s position as the world’s most refined and capable luxury SUV, its makers say.
Robin Colgan, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover MENAP, said: “With the Land Rover strength at its heart, the new model has been engineered from the ground up to be the most capable and refined Range Rover ever.
“While maintaining the essential, unique character of the vehicle that blends luxury, performance and unmatched all-terrain capability, the new design and revolutionary lightweight construction have enabled us to transform the experience for luxury vehicle customers, with a step change in comfort, refinement and handling.”
The launch featured a Range Rover exhibit, which gave guests an insight into the vehicle’s evolution throughout the years. Using a hand-crafted leather display area and digital interactive panel, the presentation also highlighted the SUV’s design and features.
Although the exterior design is largely familiar, thanks to a lightweight all-aluminium monocoque body structure, the 2013 model is 39 per cent lighter than the steel body in the outgoing model. This enables total vehicle weight savings of up to 420kg and improves performance and agility along with fuel economy and CO2 emissions.
However, this has not affected the power of these rugged off-road machines. Under the bonnet is a 5-litre V8 engine that delivers a staggering 510bhp, which rockets the new model from 0-100kmph in just 6.5 seconds.
The vehicle’s handling and agility have also been significantly improved thanks to the new suspension architecture that delivers flatter, more confident cornering, with a natural and intuitive steering feel, its makers say.
Paul Yates, general manager at Euro Motors, said: “The all-new Range Rover has already received an overwhelming response from customers in Bahrain, with pre-orders far exceeding expectations. The Range Rover is a true icon which has attracted a loyal following, and with the introduction of the all-new Range Rover to our showrooms, we expect this to continue for many years to come.”
