FOURTEEN teams of four players each took part in Awali Golf Club’s social competition Ladies Excuse-Me.
The event, which is in its 19th year, this year extended a special invitation to the ladies of the neighbouring Royal Golf Club for the first time.
In this format, over 18 holes Stableford, all scores count on Par-3s, the best three scores counting on Par-4s, and the best two scores counting on Par-5s. If all players were playing to handicap, it would result a team score of 112 points.
With a lady as captain of each team, Yvonne Newall demonstrated her prowess at attracting the men on best form, as her ‘Men in Black’ came home on top of the leader board with an excellent 123 points, two clear of runners-up The Blue Jays, captained by Janet McAlpine.
Joan Martin and her Jolly January Jokers sadly lost on countback, pipped by The Italian Drivers, captained by Roberta Trzebinski, who secured third place with 117 points.
The prizes were presented to the winners by AGC’s Club Captain, Andy McAlpine, who demonstrated his contortionist abilities, shaking his own hand as a member of Janet’s Blue Jays team.
