After living abroad for such a long time, I have come to appreciate things that my family living in the UK perhaps take for granted. For one thing, the perk of having drinking water flowing straight out of a tap. But the one aspect of the UK I really have learned to value is its natural environment.
The contrast between the landscape in England and Bahrain is massive. Looking down out of an aeroplane window the sight of the greenery, which stretches across the country, provides a refreshing change from the large stretches of brown desert you see when landing in Bahrain.
Not only can you literally see the differences in the environment, but you can physically feel the difference in the atmosphere. I find that the air in England is almost easier to breathe than the air in Bahrain.
Of course this is bound to be the case due to the geographical locations of the countries. The rainfall over Europe clearly exceeds that over the Middle East, therefore resulting in a greener environment.
However, despite Bahrain’s sandy environment, it is clear to see the effort implemented in improving the aesthetics of the country. The trees and general greenery you see along the sides of the highway show a true attempt to freshen up the environment.
