Sahara Riding Stables held its second Show Jumping Challenge of the year on Friday starting with a joint Green Horse /Rider and Junior One class.
With some 30 entries this was a big attraction evenly split between juniors and adults.
After completing the first course the juniors moved into a jump-off against the clock. Taking pole podium position was Georgia Sims riding Tutu, followed by Megan Docherty on Morano with Hussain Dadulla riding Murheb taking third place.
In Junior Two, veteran Nafa, steered expertly by Rania Al Rashoodi, took first prize in a time of 31.93secs, followed by Hussain Dadulla on Murheb again finishing in the placings with a time of 32.78s. Georgia Sims also picked up another prize after deftly manoeuvring Tutu in a time of 32.87s for third spot.
The last event of the morning, a Novice class for both juniors and adults, featured a course that required dexterous riding.
In this two-phase class, if horse/ rider completed the first eight fences they went immediately into jump-off over a further four fences.
Junior Aimee Keen riding Pistachia set the standard with a lovely clear round. Kate Addison also rode an exceptional round putting her and The Chief into second place. Back in the saddle, Aimee, this time riding Rio, took another accolade coming third.
For the adults, Ammar Mohammed riding The Black took first prize. Some nimble and nifty riding from Idrak Alaquel and Ecco took second place, and taking home third prize was Mahmood Ghuloom with The Black, a double star.
This weekend will see the second of the BREEF’s Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Jumping Challenge to be held in Saar, for the Northern governorate.
The schedule for this event at the time of going to press had not yet been released, though it is likely to be true to previous events with five classes being held over the morning ¬ two junior classes, the last of which will be the challenge class, and three adult classes, the final of these also being a challenge class.
It’s all to play for, but to date the winners of the challenge classes for this governorate are Gabby Chakko in Juniors and Muslim Ali in adults.
