THE Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) held the fnal of the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Jumping Challenge Series 2013 at the BDF Centre in Sakhir on Saturday.
This show saw horses from the north of the island amalgamated with horses from the south in this fnal event of the BREEF season.
The show consisted of fve classes, two for juniors and three for adults, the fnal classes in both sections determined the champions of the jumping challenge, the results for these classes carried double points for all challenge horses.
Anyone riding more than one horse in the challenge class had to nominate which horse they wanted to have their points allocated to prior to jumping the class, and it was these horses that would give the riders their opportunity to win. However, before the battle for supremacy could commence there were other classes to be won.
The frst junior class with fences 80/90cms was a jump-off class, riders who completed the frst round successfully went into a jump-off. Twenty riders took to the fray but only fve managed to go clear in the frst round. After a nail-biting jump-off it was Ali A. Rasool, who claimed victory with Ghoroob, followed by Aimee Keen astride Rio and third place went to Kate Addison riding Westwind.
Next was the all-important Juniors Challenge Final Class with fences at 95/110cms, one round against the clock. Riders had to negotiate the course quickly and accurately. This time Aimee Keen and Rio claimed victory, in second and third came Kate Addison riding The Chief and Westwind respectively.
The result meant that talented Kate Addison took the overall winner’s trophy home for this season’s challenge cup, with Aimee Keen in runners-up position and Gabby Chakkos in third.
Next up was the frst adult class of the afternoon and it attracted a huge number of entries, some 50-plus riders.
An early fast round by Sharon Nicklin riding Tayar set the pace and after some spectacular riding from all competitors it was Mohamed Jassim with Al Yabis who took frst place. Runner-up was Basel Al Dossari with Dilmun Tashan, followed by Tawfq Al Qatan who rode Dar into third position.
The Adults Challenge Final for the north witnessed fences raised to between 115/125cms in one round against the clock. Taking the class by storm and claiming frst place was Ahmed Al Alawi riding Landcorder. Runner-up was Muslim Ali riding Emily and taking third position was Khalid Hilal Al Khatiri with Havana.
The double points result from this class meant Fahad Jamal Taqi won the challenge for the north this season, with Muslim Al in second place. Taking third position on the podium for this season was the talented

The evening moved on to the fnal class of the show and the fnal for the challenge cup for the south. This class saw fences standing at between 125.140cms, again one round against the clock.
After a ferce battle it was the skilled riding of Khalid Hilal Al Khatiria who steered his horse Bayshayer to top podium position, followed by Ali Essa with Al Ashgar, taking third place in this class was Benny Diricx riding AW Casillas.
The results of this fnal class sealed victory for Khalid, who claimed the winner’s trophy for this season. In runner-up position came Benny Diricx and third placing went to Ali Essa.
The evening continued with celebrations as the winners for the challenge claimed their trophies, a fantastic end to this season for the Breef, which left everyone looking forward to next season’s challenges.
