Spending a long day racing at the popular Viva Karting track or just viewing the action, there’s plenty of time to enjoy a fuel-stop at the popular Speed Café.

Located inside the state-of-the-art facility at Sakhir alongside the Bahrain International Circuit, the dining area gives a new meaning to ‘fast food’, entertaining aspiring racers, motoring enthusiasts and their families with a wide selection of warm, tasty treats from burgers to gourmet meals.

Annie Lacno, the café manager, says the eatery, situated on the first floor, has quickly become a popular stomping ground for the racers, grabbing a bite to eat in between sets or when they are waiting for their turn.

The venue also caters to a growing number of corporate functions and birthday parties, offering live BBQs, steaming hot buffets and refreshments.

Mrs Lacno, said: “While we do get many customers during the week, I find that the weekend is our busiest time.

“Our breakfast has done well with families and our pizza has become a Speed Café favourite, especially with the American expat community on the island.

“The pizza is actually new to the menu and is moving fast. We have six varieties including super supreme, vegetarian, pepperoni, Hawaiian, seafood and chicken. Our pizzas have a crunchy crust with a soft gooey centre, just the way a pizza should be!

“We also pride ourselves on offering home-style cooking and everything is bought fresh daily. One of our newest additions is the chicken roll, which is chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese for BD3.5. I want customers to come here before or even after they have raced to, as our slogan says, ‘pit in for a bite’.”

Speed Café, which gives off a cosy diner-vibe, compliments the facility’s racy decor of Viva’s corporate colours, panoramic windows with views of the track and giant plasma televisions hanging around for visitors to watch the action while enjoying the culinary creations served by Chef Mohammed Abdulla Mohammed.

During my pit stop at the cafe, I parked myself next to the nearest screen and placed my order for the much-loved breakfast.

I was pleased to learn this particular selection was available throughout the day as it is my favourite meal. I ordered the pancakes – three giant fluffy pieces, tasty baked beans, two sausages, sautéed mushrooms and grilled tomatoes for a snip at BD2.2.  While I waited for the dish to arrive, I munched on cheesy deep-fried mozzarella sticks for BD1.4.

Although the pancakes left me full and satisfied I just had to sample the super supreme pizza for BD2.5, which I had also heard so much about. The fresh pizza dough ensured every bite was packed with flavour.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better a slice of rich devil chocolate cake at BD1.5 appeared on my table for a taste test. It passed with flying colours.

The cafe is open on Friday’s from 10am until midnight, on Saturday’s from 11am to midnight, on Sunday and Monday from 4pm to midnight and Tuesday to Thursday from 11am to midnight.
