GOLFERS competing in this year’s highly-popular World Cup of Golf Tournament, which sold out three weeks in advance, will have the chance of driving away in a sporty Mercedes.

Al Haddad Motors, the Mercedes-Benz dealers in Bahrain, will be the title sponsor of the event to be staged at the Royal Golf Club and the hole-in-one prize of a stunning new A 250 will be hotly contested.

The Betterball Medal tournament will take place on the club’s challenging Colin Montgomerie-designed championship course on May 17.

More than 100 competitors will play in pairs representing their countries and the contest is expected to be fierce with national pride at stake.

Each player will receive a goody bag containing a golf shirt and balls on arrival and a prize-giving ceremony and lunch will be held in the Members’ Lounge at the conclusion of play, courtesy of Al Haddad Motors.

Graeme Newport, general manager of Al Haddad Motors, said: “We look forward to sponsoring the event and we are including our hole-in-one prize, which is perfect timing with our A 250 model recently launched by Nico Roseberg, the F1 Mercedes driver.”

The car will be up for grabs for the golfer who can sink a stunning drive straight into Hole 16, a Par 3, just 217 yards from the men’s gold tee and 150 yards from the women’s white tee.

As reported in MotoringWeekly, the A 250 boasts AMG body-styling, offers agile handling and a powerful four-cylinder, two-litre turbo-charged engine and starts at around BD14,000.

“We are delighted to have Mercedes on board for this highly-prestigious tournament,” said John Wilson, the Royal Golf Club’s golf sales & events manager. “Father and son Nigel and Faris Brough, representing Sri Lanka, will be defending their title so it should be an exciting match.”
