POLITICAL-DRAMA The Newsroom will return for a second season, with fans of the show waiting patiently to see how the story continues for Will McAvoy, Mackenzie McHale and the rest of the staff of News Night.

Despite receiving a mixed reception from critics when it first premiered last June, HBO were quick to renew the series following the shows two nominations at this year’s Golden Globes.

Whilst most of the cast remained tight-lipped about the upcoming second season, creator-producer Aaron Sorkin confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that he ran into a few problems whilst working on the show’s sequel.

“I doubt HBO’s going to be happy with my telling you this, but I got off to a false start with Season 2,” he said. “With my hat in my hand, I went to HBO and said, ‘Would it be all right if I started again? I know it’s going to cost time and it’s going to cost a lot of money’. Other networks would have said no.”

As a result, instead of the regular 10 episodes, The Newsroom will only feature nine episodes this season with the plots for the first three episodes already available online to the public.

In a new behind-the-scenes preview video, it was also revealed that season will have a different format than the first season; with Sorkin promising new audiences that previous viewership of the show would not be necessary.

“Anybody coming to it new is not going to have much trouble picking up what’s going on.”

The Newsroom airs every Monday at 10pm on OSN First HD.
