This week I shall be beginning my last year of school. The final chapter of my secondary education; I phrase it in such a way because, I do have hopes of getting into university.
By the end of this school year, regardless of grades, I will have achieved many a milestone: I will have survived 14 years of school, I will have sat my last exams, and I will have walked through the locker lined hallways of my school and tutted at the lack of vegan food in the cafeteria for the last time.
Cue the judgement, eye-rolling and sighing as I have finally made public the fact that I am vegan, and have been for the past five years.
It explains why I’m rather tiny. Most important of all, I will have turned 18 and will be relocating to a new continent, country and postal address. Therefore, legally, and in almost every other respect, I will be an adult. Yet, regardless of what other people say I will be an adult who still insists on watching The Muppets Christmas Carol at Christmas time.
I am about to begin what everyone assures me will be the quickest year of my life, and they are probably right, as I am currently nostalgic over what was the quickest summer of my life.
In a few months’ time I will report back on how this last year is treating me, and to everyone beginning their last year … good luck and ‘may the force be with you’.
