Reading about Frank Gocht’s fight with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in last week’s GulfWeekly took me back to the days when my mum was first diagnosed with this awful disease.
Not so much was known then and it was thought to be a virus of some sort attacking the spine, and seemingly, more prevalent in the northern hemisphere.
When my family first heard of this, we were told mum only had two years to live and that every part of her body would eventually stop working, leaving only her eyes able to blink on their own. In fact, she survived five years, she lost her speech early but used a voice machine and was fed through the stomach.
She was incredibly brave and was always cheerful. This surely has to be one of the worst diseases imaginable, and hopefully there will soon be a cure – so Frank – hang in there – we are full of admiration for your indomitable spirit and courage.

It is now mid-October and businessmen and women want to fill their 2014 diaries with commitments and dates for seminars and meetings, etc., to tie in with Arabic holidays and religious occasions.
Twice having driven and battled through the dreaded Manama traffic, I find not only are they unavailable but they have not even yet been printed.
Come on – pull your socks up companies, help Bahrain’s economy get back to business.
