Students, parents, teachers, senior management and governors of St Christopher’s School are celebrating a sensational set of results achieved by pupils who sat examinations this summer.

The pass rate at Advanced level was 99.5 per cent across all taught A-levels, with 38 per cent being given grade A and A* and 62 per cent being awarded grade A*-B (in the UK the figures were 26.3 per cent A*-A and 52.9 per cent A*-B). In total 14 per cent of all grades were A* (the UK figure is eight per cent).

Ed Goodwin, principal, said: “These excellent results continue the fine tradition for academic excellence possessed by our school, opening the gateway to fine universities in the UK, US and around the world. In addition, our 100 and more returning GCSE students now find themselves extremely well-prepared for A-level studies and for the International Baccalaureate programme.”

Whilst the school is ‘very proud’ of all students there were many outstanding individual results and these teenagers have gone on to further studies at top universities and colleges around the world.

They include Yasmeen Zainal who attained four A* grades in A-level Biology, Further Mathematics, Mathematics and Physics and one A grade in Arabic. She is now studying Human Sciences at University College London, having also become a recipient of the prestigious Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Programme.

Bhavna Ramachandran attained four A* grades in A-level Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Bhavna is studying Medicine at Downing College, University of Cambridge.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results were also impressive. Grade 7 is equivalent to the new A* grade in the A-level grading system.

St Christopher’s figure for the top grade 7 was 12 per cent and is almost double the worldwide average. And 47 per cent of all our grades were at grade 6 or 7 compared to 27 per cent worldwide. The Diploma pass rate was 90 per cent – the worldwide average is 78.5 per cent – with an average IBDP points score of 35 points, above the worldwide average of 30 points.

Top performing students include Ahmed Mohieldin who attained 42 points in his IB examinations and is now studying Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, US and former GulfWeekly YouthTalk columnist Anna Romanska with 39 points now studying English at the University of Exeter.

St. Christopher’s GCSE results also show, yet again, that the school is able to match and exceed the results of the best English private schools.
