After a long, hard week there’s nothing better than forgetting your worries with a hefty dose of laughter, of which there was a bountiful supply at the Chuckle Club.

Held over three nights at the Bahrain Rugby Club, The British Club and the Intercontinental Regency, the show featured some hilarious performers: Steve Shanyaski, John Moloney and Christian Reilly.

Acting as compere for the first half was Moloney, a larger than life comic with a big personality to match. I saw him perform a while back and was blown away with his dark humour and deliciously deadpan delivery.

When Shanyaski took to the stage I was expecting some thick Eastern European accent, what I got was a voice as British as they come. He had some great material about his girlfriend’s home decorating skills and really hit a note with the guys in the crowd when he mentioned bejewelled sofa cushions that are as rough as sand paper.

Hats off to his gag about a florist for men which offers bouquets not by price, but by the severity of your misdemeanours.

When Moloney came back on stage I was eagerly awaiting his new set because the last time I saw him it was brilliant. Sadly, as is often the case with established performers, he recycled his most popular material which just didn’t have the same punch as the first time. It was still good for a chuckle and I’m looking forward to some new gags in the future.

Rounding off the evening in style was Reilly, the most British cowboy I’ve ever seen. Adorned with a straw hat and garish boots, he and his guitar took to the stage with aplomb.
He had a tongue-in-cheek style, which he himself referred to as ‘musical racism’, an instant hit with the crowd.

Now, seeing a big name performer can be very expensive … but he decided to save the crowd a little bit of money by playing renditions of some pop classics with his own unique twist.

Overall, another successful outing for the Chuckle Club and a great way to get the weekend started.
