Congratulations to the Arsenal U18 team, who secured the first ever Division 2 title on Saturday with a convincing win over RCSI.
Playing catch up to Seef Dental for most of the season, the youngsters put together a string of results which saw them win the league by four points, remaining unbeaten throughout.
Well done to Georgia Moulder, Hayley Kunde, Roqaya Janahi, Ayaa Ashraf, EllaHuckervale, Lauren Moir, Darya Vyshegorodskaya, Jennifer Loveland-Rose, Rayah Al Khalifa, Latifa Al Khalifa, Teddy Walton, Naomi Atkinson and Aya Hassoum for their achievement.
Coach John Mackenzie was delighted with his team. He said: “I’m really pleased for the girls. They have competed well all season and when Seef opened up a lead early in the season the girls dug in and got the results that they needed.”
Seef Dental finished the division in second place, followed by the Arsenal Gunners and RCSI.
In Division 1, Joga grabbed second place in a crunch decider against the Arsenal U21s. A very well-balanced game with chances for both sides was won by two fine Alaa Al Dirazi goals, with the lone reply coming from a Theodora penalty.
Therefore, the title ended with the Arsenal Ladies on top, Joga second, followed by the U21s and Joga.
League organiser Deena Rahman said: “We have had another great Ladies League season. We would like to thank GulfWeekly and Citroen for their support, and, of course, the teams who compete every week.
“Yet again, the football has been good, and all the matches played in excellent sportsmanship. We look forward to the new season, when we will see if anybody can knock the Arsenal Ladies off the top of the table, and which players will emerge as the stars of the campaign.”
A presentation ceremony takes place tonight at 8pm, after the players take part in a fun event where the teams are mixed together to form random line-ups.
