Gulf Weekly Write to the editor

I would like to thank you and especially FashionWeekly columnist Camille Jones who wrote the article in last week’s issue about our salon.
It was a very interesting and friendly write up and we have received more telephone calls and inquiries about our services. Six out of ten customers who came to the salon had read the article in GulfWeekly. It is overwhelming that we are starting to gain more customers now.
Again, thank you, and more power to GulfWeekly!

I Loved Stan Szecowka’s review of the Gloria Gaynor concert in last week’s issue. Spot on and hilarious – at least for those of us of a certain age.

I had an incredible week being back in Bahrain and the reception I received was something that will stick with me for a long time to come.
I was totally blown away by the kindness and support I was shown by the Awali Golf Club (AGC) members from the moment I arrived until my departure. To be greeted with as many smiles and well wishes as I was afforded last week is something that I am truly grateful for.
In relation to the Open, I just wanted to express my gratitude to everyone involved in producing such a quality event. Having been involved with the organisation of an Open in the past, I know exactly how much hard work and effort goes on behind the scenes and I just wanted to thank the Open’s committee wholeheartedly for their efforts in preparation and throughout the weekend. Also, a massive thank you to the marshals and ball spotters for their support on the golf course. It really puts the bad shots into perspective when you consider someone has taken the time out of their weekend to help you, cheer you on and try to keep you smiling. I certainly hope they know how much they are appreciated.
I am obviously very pleased to see anyone whose golfing development I have had the opportunity to contribute towards during our coaching sessions in the past, play well in competition and get up to the prize table.
However, more than that, I was absolutely delighted to see how many of these people have gone from being brand new golfers to now being actively involved in AGC (new committee members, on course Opens volunteers, photographers etc).
Having worked in many golf clubs around the world, I can assure you that AGC is a beautifully unique example in that regard. It is a testament to the welcoming and nurturing nature of the AGC membership, and something that bodes very well for the longevity of the best golf club in the world.

The climate in Bahrain is now truly switched to summer so dehydration, fatigue and dizziness may become common health problems once again.
Dehydration is a summer scourge when temperatures rise above 45 degrees centigrade. During this phase, the body loses more water than it consumes or holds.
Heatstroke can occur when an excess of body fluids are lost due to the heat. It can also be caused by extensive workouts, when you are suffering from a high temperature and the body is sweating more, or as a result of diarrhea, when the body loses excessive amounts of fluids and salts.
Here are some tips to prevent dehydration:
l Drink plenty of water during summer before and after going out to keep the balance of water and body fluids intact.
l If possible wear something loose-fitting or light-coloured.
l Drink fruit juice in summer to restore some of the fluids lost during the course of the day. Eat ripe mango, water melons and other melon family fruits and vegetables.
l Administer oral dihedral liquids like ORS, or prepare fresh dihedral liquids by taking one litre of water, adding one spoonful of sugar and a pinch of salt.
l If the stage of dehydration becomes critical seek medical advice.
