Boy, he’s done well! Physics-loving Varun Madan Mohan has outscored 628 students in this year’s Indian curriculum examinations, making him the top performing schoolboy in Bahrain.

The pupil at the Indian School Bahrain in Isa Town has completed the term with an impressive mark of 96.8 percent after sitting in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination, which was overseen by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Varun, 18, who lives in Hoora, said: “The year was pretty hectic, filled with projects, assignments and tests. The preparation for the finals was a year-long process in itself. It wasn’t easy at all and a lot of effort was put in. I had to go through a lot of stress. We students had two term examinations and two model examinations followed by our finals.
“I would like to congratulate all my friends who sat the exam. I have been able to achieve all this only because of the co-operation and guidance of my family, teachers and friends.”
Varun’s father, Madan, is the head of library systems at the University of Bahrain, and his mum, Sajitha, is the library officer at the Royal University for Women. Both are thrilled with his remarkable achievement.
Mr Madan said: “When we received the news, it was really an exhilarating moment. When he heard the news about him being the school topper it was like icing on a delicious cake.”
According to his mum, Varun has always been a good and responsible student and they never had to remind him about his homework or studies.
Varun’s next step is attending a top university or college in India where he will go into the field of engineering. The bright spark has the aim of completing his masters in Photonics.
The science of photonics includes the generation, emission, transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching, amplification and detection or sensing of light.
Just to prove that girls are as brilliant as the boys, only one other student matched his examination percentage in the kingdom, namely Shreya Tripathi from the New Millennium School-DPS Bahrain.
