Fitness First members took exercise the old fashioned way with a touch of Gatsby-style during their ‘Great Party’ grand opening and birthday celebrations at the Oasis Centre in East Riffa.

The gym marked the occasion with three days of 1920s-inspired classes including Zumba and belly-dancing along with gladiator and warrior contests for men and women, a rowing competition and indoor triathlon.
Lynne Klein, Fitness First’s club manager, said: “We wanted to celebrate our second birthday and the opening of our brand new men’s facility in Oasis Mall in style. The Gatsby-era proved to be a fun party theme.
“We also staged a men’s bench press challenge which had members competing against each other for the heaviest bench press.
“Some of the members joined in the fun wearing 1920s-inspired attire and we even featured a Gatsby-style song in the Zumba class.”
Fitness First management and instructors dolled up for the cake-cutting ceremony and carried on the party vibe into their classes.
Currently, there are two Fitness First clubs on the island. The first was opened at the World Trade Centre in Manama and now boasts more than 1,700 members.
Aside from the opening in East Riffa, the gym is introducing a new product known as ‘MY Zone-making movement measurable’.
Lynne said: “This is a heart rate monitor allows a member to track his or her heart rate whilst they are exercising and other fitness and nutrition goals. This is currently being launched at the club in Manama and will be coming very soon to East Riffa.”
