Gulf Weekly Firms back charity drive

Bahrain-based businesses are backing The Palm Association’s Ramadan Food Drive by conducting internal food collections and purchasing pre-selected items from Alosra and Al Jazira supermarkets to be distributed to the needy across the kingdom, writes Mai Al Khatib-Camille.

GulfWeekly has linked up with the charity champions to support their annual campaign to encourage people to donate parcels of non-perishable items for the cause.

Charles Russell, an international law firm based in the UK with offices in Bahrain, Qatar and Switzerland, it participating for the first time.

Associate Alexia Zuber said: “We joined the Ramadan Food Drive as part of The Palm Association’s Feed-a-Family initiative which aims to provide around 155 families with basic necessities.

“Ramadan is a time during which we are all the more aware of those less fortunate in our community … but it is important to remember them all year round and this is precisely what The Palm Association does.”

The company organised a collection at the beginning of June to send to a warehouse belonging to the charity’s distribution partner, Red Leaf Trading Establishment - Teas Importers and Merchants in Jid Ali for packaging and delivery.

The members managed to gather the equivalent of 60 parcels featuring rice, cooking oil, sugar, tea, powdered milk, Ramadan sweets and dal.

Alexia added: “The Ramadan Food Drive means a lot to our firm and to all of us. It is paramount to remember to give back to the community where we live and work.

“It is also important to remember that the families we are trying to help also need our help throughout the year and not only during the holy month. This is one of the reasons we believe that The Palm Association is well placed to assist us in our efforts to try and make a difference.

“The more people are aware of the initiatives in place, the more likely they are to help and contribute. We all know that if each of us gives something, even if it’s a little, it makes a big difference in the end. We need to be grateful for what we have and give back to those less fortunate.”

Other companies that have taken part in the campaign include global distributor DHL and shipping agency GAC Bahrain.
