One of the most common things I hear from students is that they hit the ball so well on the practice range and yet when they play on the course it all goes horribly wrong! If you fall into this category, maybe changing your practice routine might help.
On the range you are provided with a wide open space with multiple targets, unlimited golf balls and a more relaxed atmosphere. These factors can make it easy to be a bit casual about how you are performing, with no real feedback. Next time you practice why not set yourself a specific goal to try to replicate the conditions on the golf course.
For example you could set yourself a target of getting three balls in a row onto the green from 100 yards. Once you achieve your target move to another area and try the same i.e. three putts in a row from five feet.
Practicing this way adds the element of pressure which we all feel at some point during the round. Remember to keep your targets realistic – as you improve you can always set the bar higher the next time!
