Arguably one of the most popular models on the kingdom’s roads, the Nissan Sunny, has been revamped for 2015 and with its new range of features it delivers more than just a solid drive, it delivers an experience, writes Charlie Holding.

‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, so the saying goes and despite the overhaul, it is still instantly recognisable as a Sunny. The design, based on the popular 10th generation model, however, features comprehensive updates inside-and-out to give it a refreshed feel.

The sedan boasts a bold front, rear and interior design including a bigger front grille and boomerang-shaped headlamps, while chrome detailing around the car gives it an extra hint of class.

Inside however, is where the revamp is more obvious and make no bones about it, this model offers plenty of punch for your dinar.

There is plenty of leg-room for all occupants, some stylish finishes and the centre stack has been given a face-lift that even the late Joan Rivers would no doubt be proud of.

The redesigned centre console in piano black finishing, display audio system and a new steering wheel with added functionality give the new model a modern feel.

Some of the features include a push-button ignition, a drive computer with outside temperature display and a steering wheel with standard audio and Bluetooth hands-free phone system controls. It features a wide AM/FM/CD audio system and standard auxiliary-in, USB/iPod controls.

Perhaps the most impressive new feature is NissanConnect with mobile apps. To the uninitiated, this is a state-of-the-art integrated communication system that connects with your smartphone to help minimise distractions.

Simply download the NissanConnect to your phone and you’re ready to rock.

Controlled through a dash-mounted, screen, NissanConnect is available with hands-free calling and texting, streaming audio, and a collection of popular smartphone apps including Twitter.

Thanks to the new app features, sitting in traffic was more bearable as my notifications came up on the screen to distract me from the monotony of moving at miniscule increments for 40 minutes.

The drive is what you would expect from a model of this calibre, reliable, comfortable and no-nonsense.

There is ample power to keep up with fellow motorists while navigating the kingdom’s often treacherous highways and the handling has improved from the outgoing model.

Cornering was also a pleasant surprise. This model feels lighter to drive than its predecessor but still firmly holds its ground, giving the driver and passengers an added sense of safety.

Sunny comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and includes four spec variants with prices starting at BD4,795.
