Defending champions Venus started their Gulf Weekly-sponsored Bahrain Ladies Football League campaign this week, playing league returners RCSI.
Having lost heavily in week 1, RCSI were determined to put on a good show, and only trailed by an unfortunate own goal at half time.
Venus, however, created a lot of chances and in the second half began to convert them, through a brace by Lamees Al Saqeea, one of which was a well worked corner kick routine, and, making her league debut, Hanna Aburoos.
So, a good opening 4-0 victory for Venus, and a much improved score-line for RCSI, for whom Dana Alassi put in an outstanding performance.
In the other game, Seef Dental gave Arsenal Ladies a scare when young Bruna Elias scored the opening goal of the game in the 24th minute. But, with only seconds to go before halftime, Nada Al Saeed scored to send the teams in level at the break.
The Arsenal Ladies then scored again one minute into the second half, again through Al Saeed, but this time with a beautifully-weighted header at the far post.
Seef Dental again showed tenacity and remain a team who never says die, when they advanced up the field and scored what they thought was an equalising goal, only to see it ruled out for offside.
Their disappointment was worsened when first they lost Alaa Al Dirazi to an injury, then Sam Rule scored the decisive third goal for a 3-1 win.
After the Eid break, the league resumes on October 15 with the Arsenal U21s playing Venus, and Seef facing RCSI.
