MORE than 85 players were out on a blustery day at Awali Golf Club, hoping to have a good golf day to compliment their bad hair day, as the club hosted the Bill Brien Trophy.
Bill Brien, who died in 2007, was a long-standing employee of the Kanoo Group and a stalwart of AGC, first appearing as a prize-winner in 1972.
The competition has an added aspect compared to the regular weekend competitions at AGC: there is a special focus on the ladies with a prize reserved for the Best Lady. Adding a little challenge to the day, the competition is played with Stableford scoring but on ⅞’s handicap rather than full handicap allowance.
Eid Adel Naseeb was the overall winner with 42 points, five points ahead of the player with the next highest score of 37 points. His score was the equivalent of 9-under-par had he played on full handicap!
Also needing to receive the Handicap Committee’s attention, Joan Martin continued her recent winning form and received the prize for Best Lady. Joan was the second placed player on points with a score of 37, five ahead of Nicky Park.
As a consequence of Joan bagging her prize, Ebrahim Al Hashel became competition runner-up (36), with Sultan Ahmed (36), Diab Sagar Al Noaimi (36), Abdulla Al Kaabi (36) and Essa Al Qutami (35) taking the third to sixth places.
Prizes were presented by Club Captain Abdul Elah Fakhro.
