When hitting a chip shot from the edge of the green, it is important to finish the stroke well. The end position will tell you a lot about the movement of the body during the shot, and a well-balanced follow through enables a consistent contact.
The position at the end of a chip shot is created by a turn of the body and not just a swing of the arms, which can create a flick at the ball resulting in poor contact.
For practice, place a tee peg in the top end of the grip of your club. As you play the stroke remember to turn with the body and keep the hands ahead of the club through impact. If you have done so the tee will face upwards to the sky, but if you have swung just the arms the tee will point to your stomach.
