A further disappointment is the first American film by gifted Hong Kong-based twins, Danny and Oxide Pang, whose forte is horror.
In The Messengers, they borrow from Hitchcock’s The Birds and various Amityville horror-style flicks for a dull tale of a troubled Chicago family moving into a remote farmhouse in North Dakota haunted by the ghosts of several people murdered there seven years earlier. It makes little sense and fails to stir the senses.
