A ‘So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye’ … I draw inspiration from the Von Trapp family for my exit.
Writing as the Youth Talk columnist for the past year has been an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to write about issues that I care deeply about: from Apple vs PC to female empowerment.
I’m eternally grateful for this opportunity: the Youth Talk column gave me a voice, an engaged audience and an excellent platform. Mr Editor, thank you for encouraging me, and giving me a free reign with the column. I’ve had the chance to write passionately and honestly, which is a wonderful gift.
My aim was simple: to become the voice of the youth. I didn’t realise the enormity of the role then, but writing about my challenges, concerns and dreams has shown me the value of having a voice. I wish my successor the best, and that s/he realises the fortunate situation they’re in.
Looking forward, I am honoured to say that I will be attending Stanford University this autumn. I’m at a vital crossroads, filled with endless possibilities, but I know one thing for certain: we’re going to infinity, and beyond.
Editor’s note: A new Youth Talk columnist will start in September … watch this space.
