The global motoring industry may be full of doom and gloom but dealerships in Bahrain are continuing to outshine the rest with steady sales and special incentives to attract customers.
One of the gleaming gimmicks getting car lovers to race to the showrooms are glitzy paintworks and special parts which make certain cars stand out from the rest of the crowd as they sit patiently in traffic jams near Sitra.
David Lord, National Motors Company's sales manager, told GulfWeekly: "Customised vehicles are incredibly popular in Bahrain and quickly snapped up by drivers looking for something a little special."
US-based AutoPort, which has offices in Dubai, has been offering up fitting services to GM dealerships in the Middle East market since 1981, for example. Recently the product range has been expanded to include the Avalanche, Escalade, Sierra, Tahoe and Yukon and this week NMC has been displaying examples of the latest look entitled the 'SCX series by Southern Comfort'.
One bright blue Chevrolet Avalanche - priced BD26,000 - has been attracting huge interest from customers at the showroom in Sitra. The standard version costs BD18,000.
Packages include special ground effects kits with dual exhaust tips, 22-inch wheels and tyres, stainless billet grille, interior dash and door trim with matching steering wheel and limited-edition leather seating. Other popular accessories include refrigerated consoles, special hoods and Gibson 'cat back' exhausts.
And, to give the vehicle a unique look the packages can be ordered with special custom-fade Xirallic paint which consists of a new substrate producing colours more brilliant in appearance than conventional micas.
