Denzel Washington and John Travolta are my all-time favourite actors. I think I have watched all the movies they have starred in.

They are professionals, good-looking and are able to entertain you whether they are doing comedy movies, serious action or drama.

So I didn't think twice about watching their latest movie The Taking of Pelham 123 showing currently in Dana Cineplex.

The movie based on John Godey's best-selling novel, is about a gang of armed men who hijack a New York City subway train and threaten to start killing passengers one-by-one if their ransom demands are not met in an hour.

Walter Garber played by Washington is a disgraced subway dispatcher who happens to be on duty when the hijacking takes place. He becomes the negotiator with Ryder played by Travolta who wants $10 million.

During their intense conversations Ryder begins to like Garber and won't deal with anyone else. To prove that he will have no part of the official police negotiator (John Turturro), Ryder kills the train's engineer when Garber is taken off the case ... just to prove that he is serious.

Garber is re-assigned and does his best to buy some time for the police and the mayor to transfer the money.

Among the 16 train passengers are the teenage boy whose wi-fi connection allows his girlfriend to televise events from his laptop inside the train, the mother with her son and the ex-army guy who gets killed defending the mother.

The story is not very different from other hijacking movies but the dialogue and the acting of both stars is what makes it interesting and worth seeing. I recommend everyone to go and see this movie. It is a good way to pass the time. Showing in: Dana Cineplex
