THE Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) held the last of its Training Show Jumping Events for this season last Friday.

These events were extremely popular and well attended, and gave all participants the opportunity to take their horses to the BDF Equestrian Ground in Sakhir and help familiarise themselves with the venue.

They were held during the evenings due to the rising temperatures and each featured two classes of a special two-phase competition.

Usually, if the competitor has any faults during the first phase they are not allowed to continue. However, for these events that rule was wavered and all riders, as long as they were not eliminated, were able to continue in the second phase. The weekend’s classes were mixed for juniors and adults. The first class had fences 85-100cm and the winners were the ones with least penalty points and the fastest time in both phases.

Triumphant in superb style in the first class was Abbas Yousif riding Argentini; the pair clearing in the fastest time. Runner-up was the Dilly’s Basel Al Dossari with Dilmun Airforce One, and taking third position was Nada Abdul Ghani astride Valentine.

The second class had a similar format but with fences at between 105-120cm.
Taking top podium place in this more challenging class was Ahmed Akbar who did a beautiful round with F16. Close on his hooves was Sayeed Mohammed Khalaf riding the lovely Denver, while Al Dossari took third place, this time riding Laretto.

The training shows will resume after the summer, on September 25, with two more shows on October 9 and 23, prior to the formal start of the 2015/16 season.

So the fences have been packed away and the judges’ box door closed for now. It was a lovely end to the season. In my opinion the training shows have allowed riders and horses alike to continue jumping for much longer than normal, which has been appreciated by all.
