Gulf Weekly Too Hot To Trot

Last weekend saw the conclusion of the equestrian season with a fabulous Dressage Show at the Dilmun Stables.

Presided by international judge Lillian Sternvard, the event was sponsored by Pan Gulf Holdings who provided trophies, rosettes and prize money. They were represented by Mai Al Hamdam alongside Jay and Gail Jacoby.

The day started with the Mixed Novice Test that was won with a superb performance by Andrew Scopes astride Porphyry. A lovely test by Megan Black riding Laretto put them into runners-up position and Jerri Taylor steered Airforce One into third place.

Next was the Junior Introductory A Class and keeping it a family affair, Anals Peyre and sister Chloe, riding Inca and Al Kateef respectively, took first and second place.

Another sister act – Ella and Freya Nicklin – took third and fourth spots, both riding the stunning Cortez.

A Nicklin was on the podium again for the Introductory A adult class … but this time it was mum Sharon’s turn for glory riding Cortez to victory. The runner-up was Gail Jacoby with Just Mustard and Irina Matoian with Bella came third.

Finally, the Mixed Preliminary 12 Class was won by Jerri Taylor on the beautiful Mano Kinsky followed again by Sharon and Cortez. Taking third was Jessica Stuart on Bambam.

That ended the Dilmun Stables’ competitions doors for the season. It has been a fabulous one with a plethora of events and the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) played a significant role providing both formal and training show jumping events.

There have also been some amazing cowboy shows and popular cross country events, coupled with large doses of local show jumping and dressage.

Pony camps, gymkhanas, stable management courses and tonnes of other fun activities, alongside a host of visiting equestrian specialists, resulted in an action-packed season.

As people depart the island for their summer vacation, horses will be allowed some serious down time, time to chill – well, maybe that is not quite the right word!

On that note don’t forget about the kewl cooling horse/dog/people products that are available. For more information contact me on 39087724 or email Helen2Blake@hotmail.com

There is also something to keep equine lovers entertained this summer. Check out the UTube videos posted by the Bahrain Show Jumping Riders titled Bahrain Show Jumping. There are some brilliant recordings, well worth a browse.

All that’s left is to say ‘Happy holidays’ and I look forward to another great equestrian season starting with a BREEF Training Show on September 25.
