New technology hits us in menacing waves and children are drowning in it. Tablets, mobiles and other technological distractions are hypnotising the younger generation to forget the world around them and only acknowledge the small screen before them.
Even though I spend hours at a time on my computer and phone every day, I had a childhood; I played sports with my friends, I had water fights with plastic guns, which in turn kept me sociable, physically-active and imaginative.
Now, if we look at today’s younger generation we see younger kids sitting around all the time on their iPads and iPhones playing Candy Crush or Minecraft in their own virtual world.
The rare phenomenon today of seeing children playing outside was more common 10 years ago and the swings and monkey-bars are now antiques of a generation that some can only just remember.
I am not saying that technology is a bad thing and we should get rid of it altogether, but I am saying that as a kid you shouldn’t let it take over your life.
Children should look up from that little screen and embrace the world in front of them before it’s too late.
Technology is holding back many opportunities that life presents because we are too busy looking down and ignoring what is in front of our eyes.
So look up and I promise you, you won’t regret it.
