Video gamers put their silky skills to the test and 16 emerged victorious in a fiercely-contested tournament held at City Centre Bahrain.
Eid Fahad, Ali Mohammed and Ziad Omar, along with 13 others, fought off the challenge of 261 fellow competitors in the opening Bahrain leg of the MENA region’s ‘Fanta Gaming Masters’ event hosted by VIVA Bahrain and organised by Power League Gaming.
Speaking after his success, Eid said: “This was my first participation in the Fanta Gaming Masters and I’m really delighted that I won through.
“The competition here was tough and contained some really good gamers from various backgrounds. I am looking forward to the next stage which will be another exciting experience. I will do my best to win!”
As the largest gaming tournament of its kind in the region, the trio had to down numerous foes as they showcased their virtual football abilities on the popular FIFA 2015.
Amongst the competitors was GulfWeekly’s assistant editor Zahid Balooshi who won his opening ‘best-of-three’ encounter but a stomach bug hindered his progress. His editor blew the whistle of his gaming endeavours by calling him back to the office to work on this week’s issue. “I’m sure had I been fully fit I would have done the paper proud,” he said.
After a gruelling day of tense encounters, 16 players have so far secured a spot to participate in a knockout round in Bahrain where four of the best players will be invited to attend the Championship Finals in Dubai.
At this premier contest they will face qualifiers from across the Gulf region and North Africa and compete for big prizes such as cars and holidays.
*Local players should not give up hope just yet. Contest organisers plan to stage a couple more qualifying events next month in Bahrain. Watch this space for more details.
