IF you like your vehicles big, beautiful and bursting with elements of sheer brilliance it’s hard to find anything that could beat this marvellous Mercedes-Benz beast.

For those with larger families (or of a generous nature willing to pick up their friends’ kids too on the school run) the seven-seater GL 500 4MATIC is simply a magnificent choice.

I know a lot of expat and local mums (and dads for that matter) who feel more secure on these scary roads in a larger vehicle for safety’s sake.

There can be few more commanding vehicles than this Merc. You’re sitting tall in the driver’s seat with the ultimate view of the road ahead and yet, at the same time, the manoeuvrability of this vehicle is magnificent. Its V8 engine is also powerful and responsive.

Comfort is another attribute that cannot be ignored. After spotting my posting of a photograph of my test drive vehicle, one fellow motoring scribe went on social media to proclaim that he so enjoyed sitting in the driver’s seat he went in search of a traffic jam!

I’m not quite so sad, but I must admit to leaving it running for several extra minutes in the carport outside my villa as the massaging seat hit the spot just below my left shoulder-blade. Heaven! It’s such an easy 4x4 to drive too, a flick of the wrist puts the car into drive or reverse and the press of a button puts it into parking mode.

In fact, there’s a button for everything. You want to move the seats for easy access to the rear, press a button. You want to close the tailgate, press a button. This is one vehicle guaranteed NOT to make you break into a sweat.

The kids can be fully entertained with screens for everyone, air-conditioning keeps everyone cool no matter where they are sitting, and the all-round camera view (and I mean, all around the vehicle) is a dream feature too.

My test vehicle was white, the standard hot weather colour, and the interior was as classy as you would expect from the marque. The brown leather seats, of course, had a chilling feature so there’s no need to suffer sticky trousers in the summer.

I particularly liked the Citrine Brown version on display in the showroom priced slightly over BD39,000. But, whatever the colour, this vehicle has everything a family could possibly desire. For more details, contact Al Haddad Motors on 17785454.
