I am the president of the Geographical Club headquartered in the Czech Republic. This is a non-profit institution whose goal is to study geography and present history.

Our club has collections of postage stamps, postcards, pin-badges and various other items which document the modern history of countries all over the world and serve for study and prospective exhibitions.

That is why we would be very grateful for donation of some stamps with local flora and fauna, postcards, badges etc. that could enrich our archives and could be displayed at an exhibition.

I sincerely hope that your readers will respond to this request in earnest.

DESPITE having lived on the island for the past four years, one thing I’ll never be able to get used to is the post-Ramadan rush in Bahrain.

During the holy month, there is a peace and tranquillity that fills the air. Perhaps this is to do with certain establishments closing their doors for 30 days or maybe it’s the decline in visitors from across the causeway. Whatever the reason, the first day of Eid is always an overwhelming experience.

It’s like this small, sleepy island suddenly wakes up with a deafening boom and everything is in full swing with people eager to make up for lost time by staying awake for as long as possible.

I miss the quiet!

Insomniac,

I WAS amazed by the article in last week’s edition of GulfWeekly headlined ‘A pilgrimage to The Somme’. It’s amazing how much history took place there. A very thought-provoking piece indeed.

I LOVE starting my Wednesday with a cup of coffee and a GulfWeekly but I have a very serious complaint I’d like to air. The Just So section on the Esquires elevenses page is driving me mad!

I often rack my brain for days trying to figure out the answers, any chance of making them a little easier?

Abasi Babu, By email.

Editor’s reply: You’re not alone there my friend, members of the GulfWeekly team also put their brain power to the test with the Just So section each week. Sadly, we often come up wanting too. As for making them easier, sorry, no chance!

* See Page 16   Thanks for the coverage last week. The Ramadan wrap-up article looked great.

However, there was an error in the photo caption. The designations of Waqas Al Thawadi and one of the customer service staff were switched. The caption should have read from left to right as BCC’s Mohammed Irfan – customer service, Waqas Al Thawadi – senior operations manager, Dipti Bhatia – promotions and events and Ali Bahman – customer service.
