The Palm Association has launched a 2016 calendar to celebrate its achievements over the past 15 years as well as to raise funds for its ‘Feed a Family’ project.

The charity champions linked up with photographer Phil Weymouth and advertising agency Unisono to create and print 500 black and white calendars.

The flip calendar features a variety of images showcasing the beauty of Bahrain including the Tree of Life, an old date merchant at the Bahrain souq and a fishermen sitting on the edge of a dhow.

Maria Sorger, the Palm Association’s corporate communications officer, said: “This is the first year we are doing something like this. We wanted images portraying everyday life in Bahrain which is why we approached Phil and he was keen on helping us.

“He allowed us to use the photos from his Bahrain Life website free of charge. We felt that black and white photos create more of a dramatic effect.

“We also included a small blurb at the beginning to tell the story of how the Palm initially started and why.”

Sponsors including Julius Baer Swiss private bank, Jawad Business Group, Charles Russell Speechlys law firm, Nadeen School, Delmon Kennels and Crown Relocations quickly stepped up to be part of the calendar.

Mrs Sorger added: “They paid a fee to be in the calendar and that fee, together with the sale of the calendar, should help us raise around BD3,000 which is what we need for our ‘Feed A Family’ fund every month.

“So far we have raised BD2,000.”

Every month, the big-hearted association members provide 155 destitute Bahraini families with BD20 worth of non-perishable food parcels including tea, bags of rice, sugar and other items.

The calendars, priced at BD5, are being sold at The Bookcase in Saar and The Capital Club in Manama.
