Bahraini Farooq Ahmed and British playing partner Barry Hobday won the Royal Golf Club’s 13th annual National Day Golf Tournament, sponsored by Audi Centre Bahrain. The pair, who have teamed up for four out of the last five National Day Tournaments, achieved a first day score of 41 followed by 44 on day two, giving them an overall aggregate score of 85.
Mohamed Al Khalifa and Sanjay Lal clinched the runners-up spot in the prestigious tournament with scores of 41 and 43 for a total of 84, while the duo of Saqer Al Noaimi and Bijan Majidi took third place with scores of 44 on day one and 40 on day two.
The 36-hole tournament, which was played on the club’s challenging Montgomerie championship golf course, was created to promote friendship and unity between Bahrainis and expatriate residents of the island. The event featured 50 expat golfers paired up with 50 Bahraini players and was played in the two-player scramble format on day one and in the two-player better ball format on the second day. A range of Audi cars were showcased around the course for the duration of the event which concluded with a prize-giving ceremony and an ‘East meets West’ lunch.
“We’re very pleased with the great success of this year’s tournament and congratulations go to Farooq and Barry on their win,” said Stephen Havrilla, the club’s general manager. “Behbehani Brothers and Audi Centre Bahrain were extremely supportive and we look forward to partnering with them again in the future on more spectacular events.”
Steven Hill, general manager, motors division, Behbehani Bros, said: “I am glad this year’s tournament was so closely contested and we congratulate the winning teams. Over the two days we had remarkable feedback from the players and we are proud to announce that Audi will be sponsoring the next issue of the tournament in 2016. I would also like to extend our thanks to the Royal Golf Club and my team at Audi Centre Bahrain for making this year’s tournament enjoyable.”
