The Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) will kick off the first round of its championship series at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir on Friday. The event, supported by the BIC and the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF), will consist of 12 races over a period of six months with 15 racers fighting for the Bahrain Superbike Championship title.
The bikers will be competing in Ducati 899 Panigale bikes in an “arrive and ride” format.
Hussein Al Kooheji, co-founder of the championship, said: “BSBK is a competition in riders racing skills. The 15 participants will all use identical bikes which is a great chance for every aspiring riders to test their individual racing skills and compete for a title.
“There are important rules in the racing which all riders have to carefully follow to avoid disqualification and as a safety measure.”
BSBK is the first organised superbike championship in the Kingdom of Bahrain with collaboration of motorcycle organisation and enthusiasts. The event is also supported and sponsored by SevenFriday, Bahrain Motorcycle Club (BMC), Pro Fiber, Pirelli, R&G and The Westin Bahrain City Centre Hotel.
Round two will be held on February 12.

Al Riwaq Art Space is staging its cultural project The Nest 2015/ Market 338 until Saturday. This will be the fifth year the Adliya neighbourhood has been transformed into a live arts space with public installations, live music and a weekly marketplace. The Nest is a local hotspot, offering live music performances, activities for children and workshops. There will be a full programme of events lined up including a film series curated with the Sharjah Arts Foundation.
