Plenty of spin
ONE of the biggest questions every golf coach gets asked is: ‘How do I get more spin?’ There are two things to consider: 1. Ball type and 2. Spin loft.
Firstly, make sure you’re using a tour ball as these are designed to create more spin off the club. The only disadvantage is that they are usually more expensive and don’t last as long.
Each golf ball brand has a tour model. Stick with the one you like so that you get used to the feel and sound and can learn to predict the shot better.
Secondly, use the correct club to increase the spin loft to generate more back spin.
If you are chipping with your pitching wedge, you need to increase the loft of your club, ensure a downward impact and use a sand or lob wedge to enhance the chances of creating more spin.
Combining the right ball and increasing the loft on your club will improve your chances of getting the desired amount of spin. Simple other tips like making sure the club is clean and dry with good grooves increases spin rates.
