The luxury crossover segment has a new heavyweight contender as Infiniti’s latest iteration of its QX50 model has been launched in the kingdom, and dealer Y K Almoayyed & Sons is confident it will delight the marque’s existing drivers and win new fans.

The most striking change for 2016 is the new, fluid appearance in the exterior. The model features a new front and rear bumper, and lower front end and rear facia. It combines the look and feel of a luxury coupe with its sport proportions, but has the flexibility and comfort of an SUV.

True to form though, the QX50 retains the signature Infiniti touches such as the double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights, xenon auto-levelling headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights and distinctive LED taillights.

Changes have also been made to the proportions, with a higher and longer wheelbase to help with a smoother drive and increased legroom for more comfort.

The interior has also been redesigned. The driver-focused cabin layout features an Infiniti-patented ‘double-wave’ instrument panel, easy-to-read high-contrast gauges and hospitality lighting. The instrument panel also features a seven-inch colour display with a trip computer and additional vehicle information, including the available Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System.

As for infotainment, the QX50 also features a host of technological advancements that include Streaming Audio via Bluetooth, Advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) that includes front and rear sonar, and a Bose Premium Audio System with 11 speakers.

Of course, what you don’t see is just as important as what you can, and the 2016 QX50 delivers. It packs a 3.7-litre V6 engine, which pumps out 326BHP and complements a seven-speed automatic transmission.

Anas Abdulla, sales manager of Infiniti Bahrain, said: “The QX50 features a major overhaul in exterior design and overall has made some significant improvements, with particular focus on rear legroom.

“It’s a powerful presence in this segment with its design, performance, safety and technology, while offering a driving experience that is both exhilarating and rewarding.”

The launch event took place at City Centre Bahrain last week.

The 2016 Infiniti QX50 is available now starting from BD16,500. For more information, call 17732732 or visit the showroom in Sitra.
