The French School of Bahrain is presenting a Musical 2016 Show on May 19 at the Cultural Hall from 6.30pm. Directed by Sadaf Karim, it tells the story of a group of children auditioning for a part in a new school musical and competing against each other at all costs. It will feature a range of popular songs from artists such as Bruno Mars, Eurhythmics and One Direction.

The St Christopher’s Day Dinner will be held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel on May 20 at 7pm. The guest speaker will be British ambassador Simon Martin, who will be outlining the history of the 200-year relationship between Bahrain and the UK.

The Manama Singers are hosting two events at the British Club of Bahrain later this month. On May 27 and 28, they will perform a ‘Swing into Summer’ concert featuring jazz classics from 6.30pm on both evenings, while on May 27 they will stage a Disney Favourites Show from 4pm.

Bushido restaurant is hosting a ‘Cirque Le Soir’ event on May 27 at 9pm to celebrate its seventh anniversary. The show will include crazy costumes, dwarves, magicians, clowns, sword-swallowers, fire-eaters, contortionists and stilt walkers.

Tickets are BD15 for men, and free for women before 10pm and BD10 after 10pm.

The Gulf Hotel is staging numerous mouth-watering culinary events this month and next. For example, a Mexican Food & Cultural Festival will be staged from May 26 to June 3. Fourteen entertainers from the country’s renowned ballet company Yoliztli Widen de la Laguna will perform in the lobby during the event. Mexican Chef Rafeal and his culinary team aim to delight diners with a taste of authentic cuisine.

China Garden, its award-winning Chinese restaurant, is hosting Chef Ding from Shanghai until June 4 and he is promising to deliver a ‘fresh take’ on the cuisine.

Check out Asdado Argentinean BBQ which is back by popular demand. Chef Rohit and his team challenge meat-lovers on the island to a culinary adventure across the flavours of Argentina with beef, lamb and sausages served on a lava-stone grill until Friday.

The third and final lap of Giro D’ Italia’s culinary journey takes in the southern regions of Italy featuring delights from Sicily to Molise. Chef Enrico is plating up a special selection of a la carte and set menus under this theme until June 5.

Sato restaurant is offering an authentic Japanese Teppenyaki Business Lunch starting from BD12++. Chefs promise to liven up business meetings with a cooking act too. From noon to 3pm, Sunday to Thursday, with special corporate prices available.

A ladies-only fashion event called ‘Moda Expo’ will be held during Ramadan at the Gulf International Conventions Centre of the Gulf Hotel Bahrain on June 11-12 from 7pm-1am.

On display will be the latest lines of abayas, accessories, make-up, footwear, bags and other local products.

In anticipation of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain hosted an appreciation event for 200 of its partners and guests. The evening was held as part of a teaser campaign in unfolding the theme of Ramadan’s iftar and ghabga offerings at the property.

During the event, guests were able to sample the serene atmosphere created in the Gallery and Silks restaurant, where the Ramadan iftar buffet is set to take place in June.

A full set-up was prepared for the evening, starting from the majestic Al Murjan Ballroom to the outlets. As handlers explained the art of falconry, guests were welcomed to enjoy a sample of the food with international and traditional selections, as well as live music provided by an Oud player.

The Mövenpick iftar will feature dates and traditional juices such as Jallb, Kamar el deen, Tamarhindi followed by an extensive salad buffet with a wide variety of freshly-made mezza’s and greens.

Hot choices include Harees, Thareed, Moadrouba, freshly-grilled meats from the charcoal or live stations with shawarma, Ouzi and baked whole fish fetta.

The vast dessert buffet includes Balasham, Konafa, Zounief al Siet, Um Ali and Bahraini Halwa and there will also be a large choice of cheeses.

As revealed in last week’s GulfWeekly, Skyler ‘Sky Blu’ Gordy, the 30-year-old, rapper, record producer, DJ and dancer, will be taking centre stage on May 19.

The gig was confirmed this week after months of negotiations. Najia A Zainal, the Elite Hospitality Group’s media and PR manager, said: “We are confident this event will be a huge hit with music-lovers. Sky Blu of LMFAO is a big name in the music game and we are excited to be bringing him to Bahrain for the first time. His music is popular, different and refreshing. This is going to be a great show.”

DJ Sky Blu AKA the Party President and his LMFAO partner Redfoo seem to be in ‘splits-ville mode’, according to insiders, and are pursuing their own projects. The music man heading for Bahrain is still delivering nonstop beats which he says feature ‘a little rock, a little punk and a little crazy hip-hop’.
