THIS year’s programme was a glorious compilation of different dance techniques ranging from ballet to tap, Bollywood to contemporary, hip hop to Irish … and a few others thrown into the mix to make it even more exciting.

There were 37 different mini-performances in all, starting with the rousing Applause and culminating with a delightful version of I Will Survive, involving all of the students of the dance school.

The quality of the work speaks volumes to the dedication of the teachers and the respect these dancers, some who barely seemed old enough to take directions, must have for their teachers.

Everyone gave their all and everything was fun, courageous and beautifully performed.

The costumes were so sparkling and dazzling that they added to the magic, but it was the dancers who made the show.

It would be unfair to pick out any one dancer as being better than the rest as they all brought something to the mix, but for me the stand out routine was Lady Marmalade by Grade 4 Tap in Act Two.

I had never imagined that a tap dance could be so sassy, which this one certainly was. It took what could have been a raunchy theme, pushed the boundaries just a little and polished the result with some brilliant theatricality and a great tap routine.

Very impressive as was Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Sunday Primary and Preparatory Ballet. My Boy Lollipop - Saturday 10am Pre-Juvenile And Preparatory Ballet and It’s All Coming Back To Me - Intermediate Ballet.

I could go on and list every performance as each in its own way proved delightful to watch.

The audience was a joy after some I have sat with these past few months. Everyone and everything got the deserved applause in bucketfuls and there was no ‘charge for the stage’ when offspring were performing.

So, congratulations to Victoria Dance for staging an entertaining and professional show. We, the audience, loved it!
