Any golfer who has played in this region long enough will surely have experienced playing a shot from the desert after missing the fairway with their drive.
This tricky situation can be overcome with a few small adjustments.
-The top priority is to make reasonable contact with the ball and definitely try to contact the ball before the sand.
-Normally the ball will come off the ground differently to grass, so be realistic about which club to use - opting for more loft than less is always a good choice.
-Place the ball a little further back in the stance than normal and swing easy for good balance on a loose surface.
-Finally, a trick that works for me is to focus on a point in the sand about an inch in front of the ball, rather than looking at the ball. Try to make that spot the first point of contact at impact.
