THE much-in-demand colourful new Suzuki Jimny, famed for its impressive on-and-off-road capabilities, was launched at a ceremony staged at Mohammed Jalal & Sons’ Mameer showroom.
Ahmed Jalal revealed the new star, which is considered a breakaway from Suzuki’s four-wheel drive vehicles, which in recent years have proved to be well-received in terms of design, high-performance, manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency.
The vehicle has proved so popular with customers that the first batch of 38 were snapped up within hours of their arrival and names are already on the list for the next shipment to arrive shortly.
The Jimny has been produced by the Japanese automaker since 1970 and 2.85 million of them have been sold in 194 countries. In terms of dimensions, it measures 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,725mm in height. It has a 2,250mm wheelbase and a 205mm ground clearance.
Positioned on a ladder frame chassis, the new Suzuki Jimny features LED headlamps, headlamp washers, a five-slot grille finished in matte black, a heavy duty front bumper with wide central air dam and boxy wheel arches fitted with 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.
The Jimny is offered in single and dual tone colour options, which include Jungle Green, Medium Grey, Blue Black Pearl, Silky Silver Metallic, Spare White, Pure White Pearl, Kinetic Yellow (dual tone), Chiffon Ivory (dual tone) and Brisk Blue Metallic (dual tone).
The model is powered by a new K15B 1.5 litre engine offering 102 PS power and 130Nm of torque mated to a five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission.
There is useful technology on offer too such as hill-hold and descent control, brake support and a host of driver assistance systems that make the new Jimny even more capable than former models. Inside, the top-spec Jimny gets a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, rear privacy glass and heated front seats.
Jimny received the Best Design Award for 2018 with regards to safety features. The most prominent involves a sophisticated ABS-system which can brake slipping wheels, and thus doubles to function similar to limited-slip or locking differentials, sending power to the wheels that still have traction, in all types of terrain.
There are also six airbags, Isofix child seat mounts for the rear seats, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), a seat belt reminder and a lane assist system. The Jimny has also received a crash rating of three stars by Euro NCAP.
The model has already received stellar reviews around the globe, with www.autoexpress.co.uk suggesting that ‘anyone who liked the old Suzuki Jimny will love this new version. The dinky 4x4 is redefining the mini-SUV with cool retro-styling, better refinement and vastly improved off-road handling’.
The Suzuki Jimny is available at a competitive starting price of BD7,500. Mohammed Jalal & Sons continues to offer free insurance coverage, five-years warranty, roadside assistance and free car registration on all of its cars.
