EXCITEMENT is growing as scores of new models will be unveiled to the public at tomorrow’s opening of the Geneva International Motor Show’s 89th edition which runs until March 17.
More than 100 world and European premieres are to be presented during the press days that started yesterday and continue today. And, the ‘Car of the Year’ trophy will also be awarded once again at the event.
Around 70 exhibitors will be presenting their pride and joy, including the Jeep brand and Mercedes unveiling a collection of major new products and special editions.
2018 was the best ever year for the Jeep brand in Europe, with record sales in many markets across the continent. Jeep was also the fastest growing brand in the region in 2018 with sales up by 56 per cent compared to 2017.
The Jeep Compass was the best-selling model in the range, followed by the Jeep Renegade, which also continues to be one of the top-selling vehicles in its segment. In third spot was the new-generation Wrangler.
On the back of these results, Jeep will introduce several new special edition models at the show, in response to the continued and growing demand from enthusiasts for exclusive new customisation options:
•The new ‘S’ range includes special editions of the Jeep Renegade, Compass, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, all of which make their European debuts at the Geneva International Motor Show.
•The new Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk completes the Trailhawk family with all Jeep SUV’s sporting the prestigious ‘Trail Rated’ badge, a symbol that signifies their ability to successfully tackle even the most challenging off-road trails.
•The stand will also feature a display of custom models created with Jeep Exclusive Authentic Accessories powered by Mopar to further enhance the now legendary features that first established the success of Jeep SUV’s.
As for Mercedes-Benz at the show, the inventor of the automobile will present the new CLA Shooting Brake and, for the first time, the Concept EQV and the face-lifted Mercedes-Benz GLC. Also on display to the public for the first time will be the Formula E show car and the smart forease+. While the new V-Class people-carrier will celebrate its show premiere.
Bentley Motors will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with a highlight, while the Motorworld Group will showcase classic cars.
As is the case every year at the Geneva International Motor Show, hypercar makers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin, Pagani or Koenigsegg will be putting new vehicles on display.
Roland Gumpert has announced a fascinating methanol-powered hybrid super-speed car. Visitors will also see an advanced version of the Flying Car by Pal-V. Last but not least, several electric cars will be on show; to name just two examples, they include vehicles by E.Go and an absolute newcomer, Mark Zero from Piëch.
Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will officially open the 89th GIMS tomorrow morning in the presence of Swiss brand representatives, ambassadors from the manufacturing countries and numerous prominent national and regional figures. He will then go on a tour of the exhibition halls.
