FUND-RAISING can be fun and a tasty treat too as families at the first of this month’s series of Pink Brunches at ART Rotana’s five star beach resort on Amwaj Islands witnessed at the weekend.
Choices restaurant & terrace was transformed into a pink-themed wonderland as Think Pink Bahrain breast cancer awareness campaigners set up stall and supporters sold raffle tickets.
Even the members of the venue’s slick band Soneando donned ribbons of support on their slinky black outfits on stage as diners got into the spirit on the dance floor in-between courses. As singer Pink once said: Get The Party Started!
Executive Chef Theodor Rudiferia obviously took the theme to heart too and presented the most perfectly-baked pink salmon amid the carvery fare. This was without question worth the entrance ticket alone, notwithstanding the fact that 10 per cent was set to go to the good cause which was another good reason to attend.
I’m a big fan of this restaurant’s Fisherman’s Voyage offering every Thursday evening, as highlighted recently on the EatingOut page, so it was a safe bet to assume the salmon would be a good catch.
But it was special … a piece of culinary magic. Salmon can on occasions taste a little bland but this supreme succulent slice of seafood sensation had been seasoned to perfection and exploded with flavour the second it touched the tongue.
This moist masterpiece was transformed by a touch of peppery glaze. I just wonder where the Italian chef picked up this spicy recipe from during his career journey which has taken him through China, Malaysia, Vietnam and India before the ART Rotana netted him from a spell as executive chef at The Ritz-Carlton, in neighbouring Saudi Arabia.
Slices of chicken, lamb and beef were all commendable alternatives but the brunch standout dish was definitely the pink salmon, in my opinion, and the supporting sides did not let the kitchen team down either.
I’ve experienced too many sloppy vegetables and dried up disasters to count over the years at restaurants but the cauliflower, mashed potatoes and broccoli were cooked to perfection and the roasted carrots and beetroot slices, which I had tried with the meat options earlier, were outstanding in texture and flavour too.
The good lady Kathryn’s top choice was the sushi and shell fish starters and, just in case you’re forgotten from the last review, the British Rock Oysters still rule OK!
Stan Junior headed straight to the pasta station for some energy fuel before his football session later on in the afternoon, and the hot chocolate fountain, with an accompanying mountain of doughnuts and fresh fruit supplies ready to be dipped, proved to be a magnet too for many of the young in attendance.
All this fabulous fare and there were prizes galore to be won too with pink boxes of Prady Candy eau de parfum catching the eye of many of the ladies although BMMI and the hotel were offering a variety of win-worthy goodies in envelopes too.
Fabulous fun and all for a good cause, and don’t forget to wear something pink next weekend to fully get into the spirit of things! I leave this article with another of Pink’s little ditty’s … Just Give Me a Reason!
* ART Rotana Hotel will be hosting Pink Friday Brunches throughout October at Choices restaurant and 10 per cent of all brunch tickets sold will be donated to Think Pink Bahrain.
There will also be raffle prizes in addition to live performances by Soneando. The Friday brunch from 12.30pm-4pm is priced at BD34 net per person.
