Readers are cordially invited to the American Women’s Association (AWA) upcoming VISIONS 2016 Art Exhibition, showcasing art & photography, at Swiss-Belhotel Seef, on November 25 -26.

With all participants living in Bahrain, their widely differing backgrounds means that each piece of art is the reflection of their personal styles, subjects, and approaches. A wide variety of styles, subjects and approaches, from realism to pure abstraction, will be presented. All pieces on exhibition will be on sale.

We hold this event for two reasons - to showcase the diverse talents of AWA’s artists and to raise money for our community service fund.

Annually, AWA donates an average of BD30,000 to charities in the kingdom. AWA is an active and diverse association that brings together women from around the globe to promote charity, friendship and cultural understanding.

Opening night will be on Friday, November 25, at 7pm with free entrance. The exhibition will be open from 10am-7pm the following day.

Our next show Will Shakespeare Save Us! by Paul Nimmo is about to hit the stage on November 9, 10, 11 & 12 and, as usual, a portion of ticket-generated funds will be donated to charity.

It is in celebration of Shakespeare’s 400th  anniversary and in support of the British Council’s Shakespeare Lives 2016 activities and the British-Bahrain bicentennial anniversary celebrations.

This one-act, short play is performed ‘in the round’ and is a great introduction  to Shakespeare’s most  famous exerts, and for those who already know their Shakespeare, this is a timely reminder of some the Bard’s greatest works in smaller bite-size portions.

The play is set a couple of hundred years after Shakespeare wrote his last play. A group of bedraggled court players is threatened with certain death if they do not successfully entertain the king. Finding a book of exerts from some unknown playwright called Shakespeare, they decide to give it a go with mixed results as they try out scenes from Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Macbeth and more.

The play is performed and produced by an international group of amateur drama enthusiasts hailing from countries around the world, including Bahrain, the UK, New Zealand, India, Australia and America.

It’s suitable for all ages but probably best 12 years and above. Tickets priced BD7 are available from the British Club reception and Al Osra, Nakheel Centre, Saar.
