Those magnificent men in their flying machines thrilled onlookers with a dazzling display in the air bellowing white clouds of smoke in their wake.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, flew alongside aircraft from Bahrain during a visit last week to the Gulf.

Members of the world renowned display team spent two days in the kingdom, as part of a global tour … and wished it was more! “The team thanks Bahrain for such a warm welcome and were sorry they didn’t get more time to explore Bahrain, from the ground!” a British Embassy spokesman told GulfWeekly.

The goodwill was mutual. Both teams were flying versions of Hawk jet fighters and the Royal Bahraini Air Force pilots said it was ‘a thrill’ to join the Red Arrows display team in spectacular mixed formation.

The flypast helped celebrate the 200th anniversary of ties between the United Kingdom and Bahrain. Crowds also gathered around the country to see the Red Arrows perform an earlier flypast, on the team’s arrival into the country, last Wednesday morning.

The aerial salute coincided with a reception being hosted by the UK’s Department for International Trade, aimed at highlighting British engineering, technology and innovation to invited guests at the Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain.

Officer Commanding Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, Wing Commander Martin Higgins, added: “We hope the people of Bahrain enjoyed the Red Arrows’ precision flying and
demonstration of the best of British.”

The Red Arrows’ visit to Bahrain formed part of a major 60-day tour of the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions – the team’s biggest overseas exercise in a decade – showcasing British excellence and supporting UK interests across defence, engineering and education.
