The Bahrain Military Museum will be opening its doors to the public on December 16 and 17 from 9am to 5pm as part of the National Day celebrations with entertainment for visitors as they tour the historical treasure cove. 

The Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Military Band will entertain guests too on both days from 2pm to 5pm. The two-storey centre, which features a vast array of paintings, documents, flags, weaponry, models and fascinating artifacts depicting the role of the BDF, is nestled in the heart of Hunainiyah Valley in Riffa close to the famous fort in which Bahrain’s former ruler Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa was born.

The museum features 12 spaces including a main hall, a hall for rulers, forts, documents, horses and old weapons on the ground floor. The army, naval, air force, uniforms, medals and ammunition halls are located on the first floor. Each hall features background music and sound tracks befitting the various themes. More than 50 assistants, military and civilian, are on hand to escort visitors around the halls for tours and to answer questions.

For those that like to roam solo, an audio guide can be collected from the reception area. Visitors require a valid CPR identification card to gain entrance. On regular days, it is open from 8am to 1pm from Sunday to Thursday, 2pm to 6pm for families only on Friday and on Saturday its open from 9am to noon and 2pm to 5pm. There is also a café for refreshments.

Bahrain International Circuit is getting all geared up to host this year’s annual BIC National Day Festival, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

This event will take place from December 14 to 17 at the Sakhir circuit and will be the kingdom’s ‘biggest and most spectacular’ celebration marking the occasions of National Day and His Majesty King Hamad’s accession to the throne. Doors will be open each day from 4pm until 10pm. Tickets costing only 500 fils can be purchased at the gate.

Set to be a part of the festivities are a full shopping experience, corporate exhibition space, children’s activities and a play area, cultural and musical shows, food and beverage outlets, concerts from major artists, and much more.

Registration for the Bahrain Award for Entrepreneurship is now open to start-ups, businesses and entrepreneurs. Last year 120 applicants took part and organisers are expecting even more to sign up for the third edition.

The accolades have been revamped this year to offer winners prizes totalling up to BD150,000. Dr Ebrahim Janahi, pictured right, Tamkeen’s Chief Executive, said: “The Bahrain Award for Entrepreneurship aims to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit and inspire innovation across all business sectors leading to the economic development in line with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.”

A panel of judges including a number of leading international experts, prominent Bahraini figures and notable entrepreneurs from across the region, will evaluate applications based on the business growth, economic influence, and optimisation of talent, in addition to leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

There are seven award categories including Micro-Enterprise of the Year, Start-Up of the Year, SME of the Year, Enterprise of the Year with an International Footprint, Sustainable Business Award, Female Entrepreneur of the Year.

The seventh award category is the Lifetime Achievement Award which honours the achievements of accomplished Bahraini entrepreneurs and businesspersons, who has made significant contributions to Bahrain’s economy and community. This category is not open for registration.

This award is organised by Tamkeen in association with its strategic partners including the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Economic Development Board, the Bahrain Development Bank, the Bahrain Chamber of Industry and Commerce, as well as its’ knowledge advisors, the Arab International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Investment – Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) for Investment and Technology in Bahrain and Ernst & Young (EY) Bahrain.
