Phil Chambers, the reigning World Mind Mapping Champion, will be visiting Bahrain to explain to schoolchildren how the concept can help bring examination success.
The six times Mind Sports Olympiad Medalist and International Grandmaster of Mind Mapping will be staging sessions at the Downtown Rotana Hotel next month aimed at students in Years 10 to 13.
He will offer two open sessions and has already been booked to provide a private course to pupils attending St Christopher’s School. A spokesman for the organisers, Dynamics Training Institute, said she was ‘thrilled’ that the chief arbiter of the World Memory Sports Council, who also co-organises the UK and World Memory Championships, was coming to town.
Although the term ‘mind map’ was first popularised by British popular psychology author and TV personality Tony Buzan, the use of diagrams that visually ‘map’ information traces back centuries.
Phil has been a Buzan-licensed instructor since 1995, trained by Tony and Vanda North, founder of Buzan Centres, and is an iMind Map accredited master trainer. In addition to this, he is a Registered Accelerated Learning Trainer, a Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and a member of the Professional Speaking Association.
Prior to entering the training profession, he worked as a computer programmer for the Royal Bank of Scotland and has a BSc in Physics and Chemistry from the University of Durham.
Drawing on this scientific background, he is one of the few people to successfully apply mind mapping to mathematics. His open morning and afternoon Mind Mapping for Exam Success sessions will take place on February 16 and will offer examples of specific school subjects, memory techniques for study and also involve fun interactive exercises.
Places are limited to 50 students per session, with a BD45 booking deadline of tomorrow. Email rjones@dti.me.uk for more details
