MOTORCYLISTS in Bahrain are being urged to decorate their mean machines in pink and join together for a trip around the kingdom on Friday for a good cause.

The annual Think Pink Bahrain Breast Cancer Awareness Motor Bike Ride, which is open to all riders on whatever marque they own, to meet at 7am at Riffa Views International School for an 8am departure.

Motorcycle enthusiast biker Davina Altman, who has been riding since she was 17, has been participating in the fundraising event for the past nine years and is all geared up to show her pink pride again this weekend.

Mother-of-two Davina, 47, an Australian expat from Saar, said: “Bahrain’s riding community is unique. It’s a small group made up of friendly and caring riders. We look out for each other and in doing so we want to help and give something back … and riding for Think Pink is one way we can do that.

“I have been taking part in the charity ride for the past nine years and I participate because it’s an amazing cause. I feel it’s one of the most active charities in Bahrain and one that really makes a difference. Think Pink Bahrain has delivered on its promises and getting an MRI machine installed at Salmaniya Medical Complex earlier this year was proof that when you come together you can achieve anything.”

The pink parade will witness motorcyclists joining at meeting spots along the route to Seef, including Bahrain Polytechnic in Isa Town, for example. Previous rides often featured Harley Davidsons alone but this year the organisers have opened the event up to all bike owners and enthusiasts.

“We aim to spread awareness around the island dressed in pink and have our motorbikes covered in the colour too,” added Davina.

The one-and-a-half hour ride will end at Cavalli Café in Al Aali Shopping Complex.
