Motherhood has taught me to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. Chocolate would be one and, in an evening, I’m often seen munching on a Lindt dark chocolate bar whilst enjoying another pleasure, the TV.
My other pleasure, which I enjoy on a more regular basis, is coffee, fully caffeinated, preferably made from an expert barista.
I drink it gratefully giving myself a little pat-on-the-back for having successfully made it out of the house in the morning and, sometimes, because I have also managed an hour or so of exercise.
Recently, however, my coffee intake has been perilously high, the neurotransmitter dopamine has a lot to answer for, and with the weather being a little on the chilly side, I searched for an alternative.
I have been wanting to curl up indoors after my morning routine with a warm cuppa, so I decided to pimp up the humble tea.
Tea itself is thousands of years old and almost every culture in the world drinks some of it. Plus, I recently read that people who drink tea are more creative and tea can protect vision, it’s easy to make and, after all, everyone’s got a bit of tea somewhere in the house.
Wanting some tea inspiration I searched the internet and came across a marvellous recipe that is too good not to share. It is a simple tea, made in a teapot, with cinnamon and cloves thrown in. I drink it with milk and a little sugar … like a mild chai.
For one teapot you need two heaped tablespoons of loose tea, a stick of cinnamon, 10 cloves and a few peppercorns. It’s the perfect January brew, a hug-in-a-cup …now to find the perfect afternoon cake recipe.
